A small clump of Strelitzia reginae has been flowering for some years in hot border at the front of the house. This species is marginally hardy here and the flower buds, which begin to develop in late autumn, are easily damaged by temperatures below -3°C. Such temperatures have resulted in a lack of flowers over the past few years. In the backround Aloe arborescens and Phormium tenax.
