Tillandsia aeranthos
growing on a Cordyline australis. It often comes as a surprise
to many gardeners that tillandsias survive outdoors in the UK. Otherwise
commonly known as 'air plants' many tillandsias are reputed to be hardy
in the mildest areas of the country. T. aeranthos a native of
South America is considered to be one of the easiest to grow and its flowers,
although small, are particularly striking and relatively long-lasting.
At Southern Comfort we have been experimenting with different species
of Tillandsia for some years. So far we have found that only
T. aeranthos and T. bergeri have been fully successful so
far.
