Bearded irises are not a favourite of mine: they are generally difficult to manage, their flowering season is short and the foliage is totally uninspiring and they tend to attract weeds like no other plant. However, there are some wonderful varieties whose scented flowers delight me so much that I cannot get myself to put excess plants on the compost heap.
